Oregon football assistant coach charged after DUI crash and false ID claim
University of Oregon running backs coach Ra’Shaad Samples faces DUII and reckless-driving charges after crashing into a parked Dodge Ram and jokingly giving a fake name.
A crash on Olive Street in Eugene saw University of Oregon assistant head coach and running backs coach Ra’Shaad Samples hit a parked Dodge Ram belonging to Steven James Young. After the impact, Samples allegedly responded to Young’s request for his name by citing former Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson, then drove off while a passenger remarked on his drunken state. Young’s passengers recorded the incident, and Young later offered Samples $1,000 to settle, which was refused.
Police officer Aidan Clark confirmed Samples’ identity, and the coach has been charged with DUII and reckless driving. He appeared in municipal court on July 20 and is scheduled for a further hearing on August 25. The university’s one outlet department said it has taken appropriate action, while fall camp for the Ducks begins next week.
