Oregon freshman Simon Rosselli eyes world U20 discus title in Eugene
Mead alum and incoming University of Oregon freshman Simon Rosselli will vie for the U20 world discus championship at the World Athletics Congress meet in Eugene this weekend.
Simon Rosselli, a recent graduate of Mead and soon-to-be University of Oregon freshman, traveled to Eugene to compete in the World Athletics Congress U20 discus event. After securing the USATF U20 title in June, he entered the meet with a fifth-seed ranking despite only one international competition experience. Coach TJ Crater, director of IronWood, joined him in Eugene, marking his first time watching Rosselli throw in person.
The contest features a three-throw qualifying round on Saturday, with the top twelve advancing to Sunday’s final, where eight will receive three additional attempts. Rosselli will contend with favorites such as Jamaica's Joseph Richard Salmon, Estonia's Sten-Erik Iir, Poland's Jakub Rodziak, and Ukraine's Yaroslav Lystopad. He aims not just for a podium finish but for the championship, hoping to reach the 67-meter mark that could secure victory.
