Oscar-winning musician Glen Hansard dies in Dublin motorbike accident
Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard was killed in a single-vehicle motorbike crash on Lower Road in Lucan, near Dublin, early Thursday morning.
Glen Hansard, the Dublin-born musician who fronted The Frames and co-won the 2007 Oscar for Best Original Song, died in a motorbike accident on Lower Road in Lucan, west of Dublin, in the early hours of Thursday. The crash involved only his vehicle, and authorities have appealed for anyone who saw the incident to come forward. Hansard, 56, also appeared in the film The Commitments and was half of the duo The Swell Season, with solo work that earned a Grammy nomination in 2016.
He is survived by a three-year-old son. ATC Management released a statement describing the family as "deeply shocked and heartbroken" and asked for privacy, while thanking the emergency services that attended the scene. Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
