Over 120,000 Galanz refrigerators recalled after fire incidents and a fatality

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a nationwide recall of roughly 121,680 Galanz Retro refrigerators after receiving 34 fire complaints, one of which resulted in a fatality according to a local fire department report. Affected units were produced from December 2018 through December 2020 and were sold in black, blue, red and white at Home Depot stores and through Amazon between January 2019 and September 2022.
The appliances, measuring about 58 inches tall, feature either left-hand or right-hand opening doors, three adjustable glass shelves, a top-freezer compartment, and a single drawer. Investigators say internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite, creating a serious fire and burn hazard. The commission urges owners to unplug the refrigerators immediately and contact Galanz for a complimentary repair by a qualified technician.
