Over 275 firefighters combat large Andalusian forest fire

In southern Spain, a wildfire spreading over an area of about 4,000 hectares near the town of Niebla has drawn more than 275 firefighters to the scene. An adviser to the regional emergency service, Antonio Sanz, explained that variable winds are constantly altering firefighting tactics, with only a short period on August 8 offering a limited advantage before conditions deteriorated again. The operation also involves a military emergency unit, supported by roughly 20 aircraft and heavy machinery.

Officials emphasized that no residential zones are presently threatened. This one outlet adds to a challenging summer season marked by numerous fires that have forced evacuations across the country, including a major forest fire in July near Madrid and a deadly blaze earlier in July in Almeria province. Scientists link the recurring heatwaves and droughts to human-driven climate change.
