Paramount+ greenlights six-episode 'Clueless' sequel starring Alicia Silverstone
Paramount+ has ordered a six-episode continuation of the 1995 film 'Clueless', with Alicia Silverstone returning as Cher Horowitz and production set for 2027 in Los Angeles.
Paramount+ announced a six-episode order for a new 'Clueless' sequel series, bringing back Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz. The show, originally developed for Peacock in early 2025, was abandoned by that platform in April 2026 before finding a home at Paramount+. Production is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in 2027, with the team seeking California state tax incentives.
The series is written by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Jordan Weiss, all of whom also serve as executive producers under their Fake Empire banner. Silverstone joins the executive team alongside original film director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence, while one outlet Studios will produce the series. Jane Wiseman, head of Originals for Paramount+, highlighted the project's return to the studio that released the 1995 film, and noted its alignment with Paramount+'s push for female-focused content following the Paramount-Skydance merger overseen by Cindy Holland.
Why it matters
The revival brings a beloved 1990s franchise back to a major streaming platform, expanding Paramount+'s original lineup.
