Parliamentary panel urges MeitY to fast-track hiring for 269 new CERT-In posts

A standing committee has pressed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to accelerate recruitment for 269 additional CERT-In positions approved by the finance ministry amid rising cyber threats.

A parliamentary standing committee on communications and IT has called on the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to expedite the appointment of 269 newly approved positions for the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, a measure sanctioned by the finance ministry to strengthen cyber security. The added roles cover scientific, technical and administrative functions, with recruitment rules for Group A Scientist-B through Scientist-F already set, while rules for other scientific posts are still being vetted before job ads can be released.

The committee seeks confirmation that these staffing increases are translating into better security outcomes as threats intensify. The report also highlighted that the IndiaAI Mission fellowship programme has struggled to attract applicants in its initial phase. The ministry confirmed that recruitment is underway but emphasized the need for swift completion. The AI Impact Summit 2026 will feature discussions on improving participation.
