Partial collapse of four-storey building in Bhiwandi leaves one dead and several missing

Early on Friday, a large portion of a ground-plus-four building in Bhiwandi, identified by the municipal corporation as structurally unsafe, gave way while night-time repair work was in progress. The body of a man named Shamim was recovered at about 6:45 a.m., confirming one fatality. Local residents reported that labourers working on the repairs were inside the building when it collapsed, leading officials to suspect four to five individuals remain trapped.

Rescue teams from the Bhiwandi Fire Brigade and the National Disaster Response Force arrived promptly, deploying heavy machinery to remove rubble and search for survivors. BJP MLA Mahesh Choughule, who inspected the site, noted that the building had been ordered vacant on several occasions but some families still occupied it. While some people managed to flee as the structure fell, the exact number of those still under the debris has not been confirmed, and the operation continues.
