Patriots bring veteran guard Greg Van Roten in for a tryout

The New England Patriots are expanding their offensive line search this summer by inviting veteran guard Greg Van Roten for a visit on Thursday. Van Roten, who spent 11 seasons in the NFL and most recently started for the New York Giants, allowed three sacks and 26 pressures last season. The Patriots already have Mike Onwenu as the starting right guard and have signed Alijah Vera-Tucker to start at left guard, though Vera-Tucker missed the entire 2025 season with a torn triceps.

With Jared Wilson moving from left guard to center, the team hopes Van Roten can provide additional depth. Eliot Wolf, the Patriots' executive vice president of player personnel, was on the Packers staff when the league first signed Van Roten in 2012. The visit will determine whether the veteran earns a roster spot for the upcoming season.
