Patriots coach praises rookie quarterback Behren Morton's arm during camp

During a press briefing before the Patriots' seventh training camp session, coach Mike Vrabel praised rookie quarterback Behren Morton for possessing a "live arm" and adapting quickly to the NFL environment. Morton, a former Texas Tech player drafted 234th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, has been entrusted with a significant workload in practice, leading the third group and building rapport with the team's younger receivers.

He remains the third-string option behind Drake Maye and Tommy DeVito, but Vrabel indicated that the coaching staff is deliberately providing him with more repetitions than previous third-string quarterbacks received. The coach emphasized the need to find a balance between the backup's responsibilities and Morton's development, hinting that the rookie could eventually compete for a higher spot on the depth chart. The Patriots have six additional practices, including three joint sessions, offering Morton further chances to improve under Vrabel's guidance.
