Pennsylvania Green Party disavows unauthorized candidates in two key House contests

The Pennsylvania Green Party issued a statement rejecting two candidacies that claim its affiliation in the 8th and 7th congressional districts, emphasizing that neither applicant received party endorsement. It warned that an “un-transparent” drive to obtain ballot access is underway and urged voters to support only those officially nominated by the party. Former Senate nominee Leila Hazou has filed with the FEC to appear on the ballot in the 8th District, where Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti is challenging Rep. Rob Bresnahan.

In the 7th District, Andrew Tupone submitted signatures to run as a Green, despite recent registration changes and criticism from the progressive group Lehigh Valley For All. Party organizer Theron Gilliland Jr. confirmed Tupone lacks endorsement and receives no party resources. Both contests are now considered toss-ups, and petitions must be filed by Aug. 3 to qualify for the November ballot.
