Penny Wong urges deeper Pacific ties as Australia seeks diplomatic outreach

Australia’s foreign affairs minister, Penny Wong, arrived in Fiji for talks aimed at repairing the country’s reputation and strategic influence across the Pacific. She emphasized that substantial work remains to rebuild confidence with neighboring states and announced plans to negotiate with both Tonga and the Solomon Islands in a collaborative manner. Wong underscored the importance of respecting regional stability, urging China to consider the widespread opposition to its July ballistic missile test.
