Perth Mint crafts 521-kg gold bar to claim world’s largest record

In Western Australia, the Perth Mint unveiled a 521.2-kilogram gold bar, refined to 99.999% purity, that has been certified by Guinness World Records as the largest of its kind. The project, described by chief executive Paul Graham as the “People’s Bar,” involved over 35 experts and required a three-day production run following a trial phase a year earlier. The previous record of 300 kg, held by a Dubai mint, was broken by this new bar, which Guinness representatives monitored throughout the process.

While the exact market value is uncertain, the metal alone is estimated to exceed $100 million. The Mint says the achievement promotes its technical expertise and highlights Australia’s gold industry, and the bar will join a one-tonne gold coin on permanent display at the facility.
