Philadelphia Democrat Chris Rabb faces criticism over immigration and policing views

Philadelphia’s leading Democratic congressional hopeful, State Rep. Chris Rabb, was pressed on his immigration and law-enforcement positions on a prominent news show. He dismissed the label "illegal immigrants," insisting that many people have documentation and that immigration violations are not criminal acts, and he called for abolishing ICE and ending deportations. When asked about police abolition, Rabb highlighted that early American communities lacked organized police forces and emphasized that 99% of police duties are not focused on pursuing criminals.

The program’s host characterized Rabb’s agenda as radical, mentioning ideas such as Medicare for All, universal basic income, and a federal jobs guarantee, which Rabb disputed as inaccurate representations of his platform. Rabb, who previously championed progressive measures like death-penalty abolition and a renewable-energy transition, won the Democratic primary over Sharif Street and will contend with independent Dennis Mahoney in November.
