Pimicikamak Cree Nation placed under lockdown after fatal shooting
A shooting in the Pimicikamak Cree Nation in northern Manitoba left one person dead and prompted a community lockdown while police investigate.
Gunshots were reported in the Pimicikamak Cree Nation, a First Nation community about 530 kilometres north of Winnipeg, killing one individual. Chief David Monias issued a statement asking residents to lock their homes, keep doors and windows shut, and not allow unknown persons inside, while children should stay supervised. The RCMP major crimes unit is leading the inquiry, and all Treaty and Indian Days events have been cancelled pending further updates.
Community members were instructed to contact the RCMP with tips or call emergency services for urgent matters. Monias also warned against sharing rumors on social media as the investigation continues. The lockdown remains a precautionary measure to protect residents until more information is available.
