Plaskett Wins Virgin Islands Democratic Primary as Moylan Secures Guam Republican Nomination

Democratic delegate Stacey Plaskett captured the Virgin Islands primary for governor, while Republican delegate James C. Moylan won Guam's Republican primary for the nonvoting House seat.

The Virgin Islands Democratic primary saw delegate Stacey Plaskett emerge as the frontrunner for governor, earning 48% of the vote against Lt. Gov. Tregenza A. Roach (32%) and former legislator Donna Frett-Gregory (20%). Her ticket with Senate President Milton Potter will contend with several independent slates to replace term-limited Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. The win arrives months after a House Oversight Committee released Jeffrey Epstein’s files, revealing Plaskett’s 2019 text exchange with the convicted offender, a matter that narrowly avoided a censure vote.

Former Senator Janelle K. Sarauw secured the Democratic nomination for Plaskett’s open congressional seat after switching parties earlier this year. Meanwhile, on Guam, Republican delegate James C. Moylan repelled a primary challenge from former legislator Mary Camacho Torres, winning roughly 60% of the vote, and reiterated a message of unity. He will meet Democrat Alicia Limtiaco, a former territorial attorney general, in the November contest for the island’s nonvoting House seat.
