Police deputy and son arrested after alleged drive-by shooting; father surrenders

According to court filings, Jennifer Lackard and her 20-year-old son Chase attended a Bronx Hall of Justice hearing on June 29, then circled the block before attempting a drive-by shooting from a tan Chrysler Pacifica, using a semiautomatic weapon that failed to hit the intended victim. Both were arrested at their Soundview residence on Tuesday; Jennifer faced charges of attempted murder, conspiracy, attempted assault and gun violations and was released on $75,000 bail, while Chase was ordered held without bail.

Their father, who previously served time on federal drug charges, remained at large until he voluntarily turned himself in on Thursday and was detained on $300,000 bail. Jennifer, a former Bronx Community Board 9 member who ran inmate-aid nonprofits, had been hired by Mount Vernon in 2020 after passing a background check. The Mount Vernon mayor confirmed her qualifications despite her husband's past. The deputy was dismissed from her police role following the arrests.
