Police detain 26-year-old after multiple stabbing attacks in Rotterdam

Police arrested a 26-year-old suspected of stabbing two men in Rotterdam and attempting another attack near the city’s airport.

On August 8, Rotterdam police identified a 26-year-old man as the suspect in a series of apparently random stabbing attacks. The first two assaults occurred at roughly 9:30 a.m., one on a residential street in the Spangen neighbourhood and another at Marconiplein, a major transport hub, injuring two men; one victim required hospital treatment while the other was treated on site. Half an hour later, police received a report of an attempted stabbing on the Brug van Cyrene footbridge near Rotterdam The Hague airport.

Investigators linked the incidents to the same suspect, who is thought to have traveled by car between locations. The police have now detained the suspect and are continuing their investigation.
