Police K-9 jumps through window to end 40-minute standoff with impaired driver
After a 40-minute standoff in Washington, officers used a K-9 to breach a suspect’s vehicle and take him into custody.
Police responded to reports of a possibly intoxicated driver who appeared to have passed out and was inhaling from compressed-air cans while operating a vehicle in Washington. After locating the car, officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, striking a curb and nearly entering a yard before a Grappler device forced the vehicle to stop. The suspect continued to refuse commands for more than 40 minutes, despite the use of a 40 mm less-lethal launcher and pepper balls.
Finally, officers deployed K-9 Midas through the driver’s side window, after which they quickly secured the scene and took the driver into custody. The individual, identified as Brandon Wells, was booked on charges including attempted evasion, DUI, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
