Police Refute Rumors of Travel Ban for Lazio Fans Heading to Bologna
Bologna police have denied reports that Lazio supporters are prohibited from traveling to the city for the Serie A opener on August 24.
Rumors circulated that Lazio supporters would be banned from traveling to Bologna for the Serie A season opener on August 24, after the club allegedly said the away section would be closed. Bologna later deleted the statement, and the city police released an official note confirming that no travel restriction exists for the 2,500 or so fans. The Lazio ultras, who are boycotting the club’s home games in protest of president Claudio Lotito, intend to follow the team on the road, as they did for recent friendlies in Ascoli and Frosinone.
Police clarified that the fans are free to attend the match at Stadio Renato Dall'Ara. Consequently, Gennaro Gattuso’s side will enjoy the presence of the visiting supporters, whereas Lazio’s own opening Coppa Italia match at Stadio Olimpico against Mantova is expected to be nearly empty.
Why it matters
Fans need accurate information about travel rights to avoid unnecessary restrictions and ensure safe attendance at matches.
