Police seek suspect after 68-year-old fatally stabbed on Martinez street

A 68-year-old man was killed by stabbing on Francis Court in Martinez, and police are searching for the assailant who fled in a Cadillac SUV.

Around 5:09 p.m. on August 6, 911 operators received multiple calls about a stabbing on Francis Court in Martinez, California. Officers arrived to find Todd Stewart, 68, lying on the ground with wounds consistent with a knife attack, and he was later declared dead at the scene. Firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded promptly, but could not save him.

Detectives from the Martinez Police Department’s Investigations Bureau, together with crime-scene investigators from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, secured the area. The perpetrator fled before police could intervene, and witnesses reported the suspect driving away in a Cadillac SUV. Authorities have issued photographs of the suspect and the vehicle in hopes of identifying and locating the individual, while the motive for the attack has not yet been determined.
