Pope Leo schedules November tour of Uruguay, Argentina and Peru

The Vatican announced that Pope Leo will travel to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru between November 6 and 17.

The Vatican confirmed that Pope Leo will embark on a South American pilgrimage from November 6 to 17, covering Uruguay, Argentina and Peru. His Uruguayan leg will span November 6-8 with stops in Montevideo, Paysandú and Florida. The Argentine segment, scheduled for November 8-11, includes Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Luján. The longest portion, November 11-17, will be spent in Peru, where he will travel to Chiclayo, Lima, Cusco and Pucallpa.

The Holy See noted that full daily agendas will be published in due course. This marks the first papal visit to the region since Pope Francis toured Chile and Peru in 2018, and it will be the first time a pontiff visits his native Uruguay and Argentina.

Why it matters

The trip highlights the Vatican’s outreach to South American Catholics and marks a rare papal visit to the region.
