Posthumous Keigo Higashino novel launches at Tokyo bookstore amid fan celebration

Tokyo saw the midnight launch of "Eien no Kioku," the newest and purportedly final Galileo mystery by the late Keigo Higashino, who passed away at 68 from bowel cancer. The event attracted a crowd at Kinokuniya's Shinjuku flagship, where fans received reserved copies after a countdown. Long-time editors recounted their experiences working with Higashino, and a Yokohama office worker expressed her compulsive reading habit.
This release brings Higashino's total output to 106 titles and adds the 11th entry to the Galileo series, which has sold over 16.6 million copies worldwide. The series began with "The Devotion of Suspect X," a Naoki Prize winner, and has inspired popular TV dramas and films starring Masaharu Fukuyama. Higashino's appeal extends beyond Japan to readers in China and South Korea.
