Pulwama man seized with grenade amid heightened security after Kulgam attack

In a security operation sparked by the July 31 killing of two migrant labourers in Kulgam, police in Pulwama detained Tousef Ahmad Dar, who was carrying a hand grenade, three anti-national posters and a mobile phone. Officers observed Dar moving toward a checkpoint jointly manned by J&K police, the Army and CRPF, and after he attempted to escape, they pursued and apprehended him a short distance away. He has been booked under multiple statutes, including the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Authorities say the Kulgam killings and a July 23 attack that killed constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi in Anantnag were orchestrated by The Resistance Front, a Lashkar-e-Toiba offshoot. Following these incidents, Kashmir IGP VK Birdi reviewed security measures, directing seamless agency coordination, the deployment of dynamic checkpoints, and heightened night foot patrols at vulnerable locations and district borders. Police reaffirmed their resolve to curb anti-national and unlawful activities and preserve peace in the region.
