Pune family of three dies in apparent suicide over financial woes

Authorities in Pune have confirmed that a family of three died in an apparent suicide by inhaling poisonous fumes they produced in their rented second-floor flat in Morwadi, Pimpri. The victims were identified as Vinod Pillai, 50, his wife Shailaja, 45, and their 19-year-old daughter Purnima. Police found a note and a phone message outlining severe financial distress following Vinod’s job loss at an engineering firm about eighteen months earlier.

The father died immediately at the scene, while the mother and daughter were hospitalized in critical condition before later passing away. Samples of the coal and chemicals used have been collected for forensic analysis, and the bodies are awaiting post-mortem examination. Senior inspector Suhas Awhad said the investigation is ongoing and relatives have been notified.
