Queens community honors Army Sgt. Angel Rampersad with moving funeral procession
Hundreds gathered at a Queens church to celebrate Sgt. Angel Rampersad, who was killed in an Iranian attack, before a police-escorted convoy took her to Long Island National Cemetery.
Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, who died during an Iranian strike earlier this month, was memorialized by a large crowd at Calvary Assembly of God in Ozone Park, Queens. The ceremony was filled with gospel hymns and personal recollections highlighting her ability to connect with people across ranks. After the service, NYPD officers escorted her casket in a motorcade that wound through Queens streets before reaching the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale for burial.
Governor Kathy Hochul, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and Mayor Zohran Mamdani were present, with the mayor releasing a statement lauding her remarkable character. Veteran representatives, including Alphonse Ranni of the Vietnam Veterans of America, underscored the tradition of veterans supporting one another. The funeral also noted that Rampersad was one of three soldiers killed in action that month, alongside First Lt. Tyler James Feehan and Pfc. Isabella Gonzales.
