Raj Thackeray urges Modi to curb BJP trolls after student protest insults

In Mumbai, Raj Thackeray rebuked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for saying he had forgiven the students who hurled abusive language at him and his late mother during the recent NEET demonstrations. The MNS chief urged Modi to issue the same admonition to the BJP’s online trolls, whom he accused of insulting national icons and the Thackeray family across several states. His cousin, Uddhav Thackeray, added that both Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah ought to apologise for the police’s harsh response, which included beatings, tear-gas and alleged assaults on female students.

The senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leader described the students’ demand for educational reforms as simple and condemned the government’s labeling of dissenters as “cockroaches.” Modi’s video message framed the protesters as misguided youths whose behavior offered an opportunity for correction rather than legal punishment. The exchange highlights ongoing political tension over the handling of student protests and online harassment.
