Rancho Cordova Approves Extra Funding to Study Traffic for New 10,000-Seat Arena

Rancho Cordova’s city council unanimously voted to raise the traffic-study budget for a proposed 10,000-seat arena, lifting the DKS Associates contract from $88,000 to $128,000. Officials highlighted the project’s complexity and the need to ensure smooth ingress and egress for the venue, which will sit at the intersection of Kilgore Road and Trade Center Drive and serve two Major Arena Soccer League franchises. The arena is part of a larger mixed-use plan that could include hotels, housing, restaurants, a movie theater and other amenities on a 13-acre city parcel.

Developer Joshua Wood, a member of the ownership group, reports progress and expects the planning commission’s sign-off soon, with a groundbreaking originally slated for summer. Mayor Garrett Gatewood called the arena a “game changer” that puts the city on the map. The city has already waived nearly $940,000 in fees and may share future tax revenue with the project.
