RCMP probes homicide of 12-year-old Edmonton boy after remains discovered north of the city
Police are treating the death of a 12-year-old boy from Edmonton as a homicide after his remains were found in a remote area of northern Alberta.
On the morning of August 6, Athabasca RCMP officers were dispatched to a rural site in the Athabasca region after a tip about human remains. The remains belonged to a 12-year-old boy from Edmonton, and an autopsy at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton classified the death as a homicide. Police noted the child had not been listed as missing prior to the discovery, and his family has now been notified of the tragedy.
Authorities are seeking public assistance, specifically requesting dash-cam recordings from anyone who was traveling near Highway 813 or Range Road 213A (the “C-Road”) between 12 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on August 6. The investigation is being led by the RCMP Major Crimes Unit, which continues to gather evidence in the case.
