Retired NYPD chief discovered dead in Long Island home pool
A former NYPD chief was found deceased in the backyard pool of his Stony Brook residence on Friday evening.
Authorities reported that retired NYPD chief Anthony Izzo, 75, was discovered in the pool at his Long Island home on Friday night after a relative found him. Emergency crews attempted resuscitation on site and then took him to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was declared dead. Suffolk County Police said no criminal activity is being considered.
Izzo entered policing as a trainee at age 17 in 1968, rose through the ranks, and served as chief of the Organized Crime Bureau in 2006 and as commanding officer of the 115th precinct in 1995. Tributes highlighted his decades of service and his legacy within the department and the NYPD Columbia Association. The department and affiliated groups expressed condolences to his family.
