RNC accuses socialist DSA leaders of steering Democrats toward fiscal ruin

In a statement to one outlet, RNC national spokesperson Natalie Baldassarre warned that socialist elements are driving the Democratic Party toward a political cliff, citing DSA co-chair Megan Romer’s inability to name a specific tax rate for millionaires on The New Yorker Radio Hour. Romer supported steep taxes on the rich and singled out billionaires as having built wealth through worker exploitation, yet she stopped short of providing a concrete policy figure.

The DSA’s 2026 program similarly calls for aggressive wealth taxes without defining rates or targets. The exchange follows recent primary victories by DSA-backed or progressive candidates, including Melat Kiros in Colorado and Darializa Avila Chevalier in New York, as well as Abdul El-Sayed’s Senate win in Michigan. Third Way announced a $15 million campaign through 2028 to fund research and outreach aimed at limiting DSA influence, framing it as essential to defeating Republican opponents. Romer dismissed the effort, asserting that people-power will prevail.
