Rohit Sharma lauds T Dilip as India appoints new fielding coach

Rohit Sharma used Instagram Stories to honor former India fielding coach T Dilip, describing him as a legend and thanking him for his behind-the-scenes work after Dilip was succeeded by Subhadeep Ghosh. Dilip first joined the national side’s support staff in 2021, serving under captains Rahul Dravid and Gautam Gambhir, and remained through the end of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He returned on a one-year deal for the 2025 Test tour of England but was not retained afterward.

While part of the setup, India won the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups and the 2025 Champions Trophy, and Dilip pioneered the Best Fielder of the Match medal introduced at the 2023 ODI World Cup, which became popular among fans. Players such as KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli and Sharma himself received the award. Dilip posted a farewell note, recalling his five-year journey and expressing fondness for the fielding medal ceremony. The coaching change marks a new chapter for the Indian team’s fielding strategy.
