The statements followed a month-long oil blockade that has been linked to rising infant mortality and food shortages. A panel of independent experts appointed by the Human Rights Council warned that Cuba is at risk of becoming a "silent Gaza" due to the escalating humanitarian fallout. The senator’s comments echo broader U.S. rhetoric that portrays the Cuban regime as a threat to regional security.
