Runware unveils portable Sonic Inference Pod to reshape AI compute
AI infrastructure firm Runware introduced the Sonic Inference Pod, a transportable modular data center aimed at delivering lower-cost, high-quality inference.
Runware announced the launch of its Sonic Inference Pod, a modular, transportable data center designed to provide AI inference at a lower price and higher quality than existing serverless platforms. Co-founder and CEO Flaviu Radulescu highlighted the pod's ability to be installed quickly wherever electricity exists, its water-free closed-loop cooling, and its capacity to scale by simply adding more pods. Runware currently operates ten pods across the United States, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, supporting customers including Higgsfield AI and Wix, with 160 sites ready for deployment.
The firm raised a $50 million Series A in December to fund infrastructure for image-generation workloads. While hyperscalers like OpenAI are building massive fixed data centers, Runware positions its pods as a flexible alternative that can reroute traffic if a unit fails and offer dedicated hardware to customers. Radulescu noted that the pods aim to meet rising inference demand without increasing grid or water usage.
