Rybakina reaches last 16 as Andreeva falls to Fernandez at Toronto Masters

At the WTA Toronto Masters, world number two Elena Rybakina overcame American Ann Li 6-2, 7-5, converting five of six break chances and saving two break points, to book a last-16 meeting with Russia's Liudmila Samsonova, who had edged Maya Joint in a three-set battle. Meanwhile, 30th-seed Leylah Fernandez dispatched 19-year-old Mirra Andreeva 6-1, 6-4, snapping a seven-match losing run against top-10 players and earning a quarter-final against Naomi Osaka, who had just beaten Elise Mertens.

Fernandez highlighted her patience and strong serving, while Osaka noted the challenge of facing a left-hander. In other fourth-round action, Coco Gauff beat Maria Sakkari and Alexandra Eala survived a three-set fight with Caty McNally to join the round of 16.
