Sacramento boosts private security and police patrols after weekend stabbing
Following a mass stabbing that injured five men, downtown businesses and police are increasing security patrols and traffic controls in Old Sacramento.
A violent altercation early Saturday morning near Front Street and K Street resulted in three men being stabbed and a total of five people hospitalized. In response, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership announced that its security firm, HQ Security, will double its weekend staffing and patrol the area in black vehicles for at least a year. Sacramento police will increase foot patrols on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, impose pedestrian-only streets after 10 p.m., and more rigorously enforce the existing minor curfew.
The initiatives are intended to preserve the reputation of Old Sacramento as a safe, iconic destination. Authorities have arrested 18-year-old Ezekiel Griffis on assault charges. Local visitors expressed relief at the heightened security presence.
