Safety alert: Over 1,000 climbing ropes recalled due to fall hazard
Federal regulators announced a recall of roughly 1,050 climbing ropes after spliced terminations were found to fail, posing a risk of serious injury or death.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission disclosed that Wichard Groupe North America is recalling approximately 1,050 Courant Spliced Kalimba climbing ropes because the spliced termination ends may rupture without warning, creating a potential fatal fall risk. The recall covers 45-meter, 50-meter, and 60-meter ropes in both lollipop and bubblegum colors, as well as any other Kalimba ropes spliced under Courant protocols before June 15.
Three reports of splice failures have been received, though none have resulted in injuries to date. These ropes, intended for tree climbing and pruning, were sold by Vertical Supply Group, Arbsession, RBI Corporation and other nationwide outlets from January 2023 through June of this year at prices between $250 and $350. Consumers are instructed to cease use immediately and may contact Wichard Groupe North America for a complimentary replacement, with two options available—one ready now and another becoming available mid-September.
