Saints lose defensive tackle Bryan Bresee to season-ending ACL surgery

New Orleans head coach Kellen Moore announced that defensive tackle Bryan Bresee will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery for a torn right ACL.

During the opening session of the Saints’ training camp, defensive tackle Bryan Bresee incurred a non-contact tear of his right ACL, forcing the team to plan season-ending reconstructive surgery. Head coach Kellen Moore confirmed the injury, highlighting Bresee’s impressive contributions last season and his productive offseason. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound interior lineman, selected 29th overall in the 2023 draft, has started 26 games and recorded 14.5 sacks since joining New Orleans.

Earlier this year, the franchise exercised his fifth-year option, securing a fully guaranteed $13.931 million salary for the 2027 season. Chase Young, a fellow defensive end, expressed sadness over the setback but noted that advances in ACL treatment offer a hopeful outlook for Bresee’s return. This development complicates the Saints’ pursuit of the NFC South crown.

Why it matters

The injury removes a key pass-rusher from the Saints, weakening their defense for the remainder of the season.
