Samsung Heavy and Mousterian sign engineering pact for Texas floating data center

Samsung Heavy Industries and Dallas-based Mousterian Corporation have formalised an engineering contract to create a 50 MW floating datacenter to be moored beside a combined-cycle gas turbine plant in Houston, Texas. The partnership will handle the conceptual layout, detailed engineering and production design, with the aim of securing a later EPC contract and classification by the American Bureau of Shipping. Mousterian’s design relies on non-evaporative cooling that neither consumes fresh water nor discharges waste, and eliminates traditional air-cooled chillers to cut noise.

The venture seeks to demonstrate that water-based sites can be built faster than land-based hyperscale facilities. Nonetheless, Governor Greg Abbott’s recent moratorium on datacenter grid connections, pending an ERCOT and PUCT audit, may delay the project’s power hookup.
