The upcoming tournament will be jointly staged by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, while the opening games will take place in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay to mark the centenary of the first World Cup. Competing bids include Barcelona’s renovated Spotify Camp Nou and Morocco’s newly built Hassan II Stadium, but the Bernabéu’s world-class amenities and international profile give it an edge in Spain’s selection.

However, planners face a hurdle in securing a sizable fan zone due to ongoing complaints from nearby residents about noise. Meanwhile, Barcelona’s venue is slated to host the most matches if FIFA expands the competition to 64 teams. No final decision has been made, but the Bernabéu remains the frontrunner for the marquee showdown.
