A 27-year-old security guard was taken into custody for allegedly strangling and raping a 22-year-old interior-design student on a Jodhpur society terrace.
Anandnagar police reported that Dharm Singh, a 27-year-old guard from Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, was arrested early Sunday after allegedly attacking a 22-year-old interior-design student on a society terrace in Jodhpur. The guard is accused of wrapping a wire around the victim’s neck, preventing her from calling for help, and raping her for almost an hour before fleeing with her phone and locking her out of the terrace.
The woman, staying as a paying guest, signaled for help and was rescued by residents on lower floors, then taken to a hospital where her condition is described as stable despite severe trauma. CCTV footage reportedly shows the guard accessing the lift to the terrace around the time of the crime. Police will take her formal statement and investigate whether the guard knew her schedule, while the security agency that employed him will also be questioned about his registration.
