Sen. Thom Tillis Unveils New Book While Lambasting Trump Supporters and Backing Acting AG

Senator Thom Tillis, a two-term Republican from North Carolina, used a morning-show interview to launch his new book, which promises a candid, humor-laden look at modern conservatism. He dismissed supporters of President Donald Trump as sycophants, spineless and weird, while lauding acting Attorney General Todd Blanche for handling the 1776 Fund settlement with the Internal Revenue Service. Tillis explained that his affirmative vote on Blanche’s confirmation came after he and Senator John Cornyn initially opposed the nominee on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

He also reiterated his view that the current administration is difficult to work for because it shields the president from unvarnished advice. The publisher describes the work as a “bare-knuckled, darkly funny wake-up call” that targets what Tillis calls “MAGATS,” a term he coined for Trump-aligned insiders. The announcement comes as Tillis prepares to leave the Senate, with Michael Whatley and Roy Cooper vying for his seat.
