Senate Agriculture Chair unveils revised farm bill ahead of markup

Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman released an updated farm bill draft that extends SNAP cost-sharing rules and allows year-round E15 fuel sales, with a markup scheduled for Aug. 6.

John Boozman, chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, introduced a revised version of the farm bill on Friday, moving the legislation toward a markup on Aug. 6. The draft maintains earlier reductions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program enacted by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and adds a clause that obligates states with SNAP error rates of 10% or higher to pay 20% of benefit costs beginning in fiscal 2031.

This change was made to give states more time to improve SNAP administration, according to Boozman. The proposal also authorizes the nationwide, year-round sale of E15 fuel, aligning with priorities of senators from agricultural districts. The amendment mirrors a similar bill introduced by Senators Deb Fischer and Shelley Moore Capito. Boozman expressed hope that both parties will see their priorities reflected and urged a swift passage before the Senate’s month-long recess.
