Senator Markey warns that Trump is steering the U.S. toward authoritarian rule

Markey compared these developments to strategies observed in nations like Nicaragua, Hungary, Russia and Turkey, mentioning the removal of inspectors general, placement of unqualified loyalists in key roles, the preparation of troops for domestic deployment, and the weaponization of the Justice Department. He warned that these ten tactics expose vulnerabilities in U.S. institutions that were previously thought secure, and that they represent an attack on the nation’s constitutional architecture.
