Senator Pete Ricketts Calls Security to Block Reporter Over McConnell Health Query

While moving up a staircase in the Capitol, Nebraska Senator Pete Ricketts was asked by reporter Charlie Cotton whether Mitch McConnell should provide more evidence of his health. Ricketts responded with a generic well-wish and then gestured for Capitol security to confront the journalist. A guard instructed Cotton and a companion to stop, and Ricketts told the guard that only he was with the senator, implying the reporter was not.

Cotton replied that he was a reporter and had already cleared security earlier. The video cuts off after this exchange, and Ricketts’ office declined to comment. McConnell, 84, remains hospitalized with limited public updates, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has called on him to prove his fitness or step down.
