Senator Tillis rebuts Trump’s anti-weaponization fund claim on social media

Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina replied on X, repeating Trump’s phrasing to argue that the fund should be shut down because it would reward individuals who assaulted law-enforcement officers during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Tillis noted his collaboration with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and Senator John Cornyn to end the initiative, lamenting delays caused by a presidential adviser.

He also warned that any payments to those he calls “great American patriots” would be inappropriate. The dispute comes amid broader controversy over Trump’s refusal to return classified documents and his endorsement of Cornyn’s primary opponent, who later lost the Senate race.
