Senator Tim Sheehy proposes nationwide concealed-carry rights for Special Forces veterans

Senator Tim Sheehy (R-MT) is sponsoring the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act, a proposal that would allow both active-duty and retired members of elite U.S. military units to carry concealed handguns nationwide. The bill lists groups such as Army Special Forces, Navy SEALs, Army Rangers, Marine special-operations forces, Air Force special-warfare units and Delta Force as eligible. Sheehy likened the measure to the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, which set a uniform standard for concealed carry by vetted police officers across state lines.

He argued that the legislation recognizes the professionalism and lifelong service of these warfighters by extending the same nationwide privileges granted to retired law-enforcement officers. President Donald Trump has publicly backed a universal concealed-carry reciprocity for law-abiding citizens, but Congress has not yet passed any comparable law. The proposal remains pending in both chambers of Congress.
