September SSI benefits up to $994 to be disbursed within a month

The Social Security Administration announced that September 2026 Supplemental Security Income payments will be sent out within 30 days, with the maximum amount for an individual filer set at $994. SSI benefits, traditionally distributed on the first day of each month, aim to assist people with limited income who are blind, 65 or older, or have other qualifying disabilities. Payment amounts vary: couples filing jointly may receive up to $1,491, and caregivers can obtain as much as $498.

To qualify, recipients must be U.S. citizens or non-citizens holding a DHS-approved alien classification, reside in any of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or the Northern Mariana Islands, and not be absent from the United States for a full calendar month or 30 consecutive days.
