Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming film 'King' may fetch record Rs 50 crore for music rights

Shah Rukh Khan is returning to the big screen with ‘King’, an action-thriller directed by Siddharth Anand and scheduled for a wide release over the Christmas weekend. After the massive success of ‘Pathaan’, the new project has generated strong buzz, and industry reports indicate that Zee Music is negotiating a record-breaking Rs 50 crore purchase of the film’s music rights. Zee Entertainment Enterprises’ MD and CEO Punit Goenka told one outlet India that talks are underway but no final agreement has been reached.

The soundtrack will feature songs by the composer duo Sachin-Jigar, while Anirudh Ravichander will handle the background score and theme music. Backed by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Films, the ensemble cast includes Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Rani Mukerji, Jaideep Ahlawat, Arshad Warsi and Raghav Juyal. Comparable high-value music deals have been reported for other major releases, underscoring the growing financial stakes in Indian film music.
