Shohei Ohtani resumes outdoor throwing as Dodgers eye playoff return
Shohei Ohtani tossed a ball outdoors for the first time in over two weeks during a pre-game session in Phoenix.
In Phoenix, Ohtani took part in a catching drill on Saturday, marking his initial outdoor throw since his July 3 start. The Dodgers are counting on his comeback with only seven weeks left in the regular season. He missed his last scheduled start before the All-Star break because of lingering left-knee soreness. A prior bullpen session in Philadelphia on July 22 also left him with knee and biceps discomfort.
Why it matters
Ohtani's health directly impacts the Dodgers' chances in the upcoming playoff race.
